Can Taking Breaks Make You More Productive?

Do you think that taking scheduled breaks throughout your day can make you more productive? For a long time, I worked non stop for 12-16 hours only getting up to use the bathroom or get a quick snack. Now, I schedule my breaks into my day. Let me know what you think about my system for taking breaks and let us know if you take breaks to be more productive.

  1. You are absolutely correct. Not taking breaks during your day is destructive to your productivity as is having too many days where you are working 12-16 hours a day. Taking breaks is a great way to stay fresh.

  2. Ryan,

I’ve been doing this for a while and it is amazing how well it actually works. It’s probably the most powerful productivity technique I’ve ever learned…The trick to really making it effective is the timer, and being disciplined about it and even tracking what you get done in that time.

I think breaks are vital to our success. Every 90 minutes our blood sugar levels drop and so our energy levels go down. People have a tendency of overriding this natural process and they just drive through thinking they will be more productive.

Every living thing on our planet operates in cycles, so I think it’s very important that we honor those cycles and take breaks as our body needs them.

My perspective is that you are doing a very good thing for your productivity because your allowing yourself the opportunity to rebound frequently thus increasing your brain and thinking power.

    Great post!!
